Lead by example...

I am not an extraordinary person. I am not an extremist.  I am just someone who wants to feel better. In order to do that, I must make changes in my lifestyle. I want  my family, friends and other's to feel better too! I know that what I put in my body, has tremendous impact on me. I can continue to ignore this fact or I can come to terms with it and "Lead by Example".

I choose not to ignore the facts. I trust my gut instincts and I will follow them. I am on the right path!

My Reasons for Staying Alkaline and eating healthier!

I want to  stop inflammation in my body that is causing me stiffness, pain in my hips, lower back, arms and hands.
I want my Acid stomach to feel better.
I want to feel clear minded.
I want my body to feel more flexible.
I want to have more energy.
I want to feel more positive.
I want to live the Best Life Possible.
I want to feel empowered through living food.

My juicing results from yesterday...

I drank 4 raw organic juices/soups throughout the day.(equivalent to about 64 oz.) I also had some cooked vegetables and some soaked nuts and seeds in the late afternoon.

Free E-book available with lots of real raw food recipes
This is the best Free recipe book  that I have found... I paid money for one that did not have the variety and quantity of recipes like this does.
Staying Alkaline is a conscious effort!  It is my goal for the best health possible.

I also need to feed my brain good sources of fats.... Finding the best sources of essential fats for positive effects of my brain is my research goal today.

Getting real....

I think I am really starting to get this... I call that getting real. Why? I am really understanding the importance of getting rid of the garbage my body has been storing for all these years. And in order to do get rid of the "junk", you've got to clean your gut. The best information I could share with you is all on this website. Dr. Gabriel Cousins, M.D. So, today I am using the get clean recipe from Diana Stobo's Book "Get Naked Fast"    it has lots of greens and very alkaline.   The recipe makes enough for 4 - 16 oz. servings. I refrigerated 3 and drank 1 for breakfast. Tasted amazing!

Today, is the first day I am trying to drink only juice.  Taking it one day at a time!  I am sure that it will be an interesting day.  Food is not only my nourishment, it is also my passion. I like making new recipes.... they don't always turn out great the first time (my boyfriend can verify this, lol).  I just keep trying and eventually, I tweak them to be my own!

I am always researching information to share with you on benefits of a Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle. Here is a few of the great site's I have come across lately.  Advantages of a Vegan Diet       Vegan-diet-benefits           Vegan Health   lots of great info for you discover on your own. Here is one final link we all forget about Why we should drink more water!

My second juice/soup this morning was Yummy raw soup made with avocados, spinach....
this soup was really satisfying!  I loved it!

FYI  If you think it has to cost a fortune to live and juice raw Here is proof that it can be done on just $10 a day (hard to believe but true!)

I will let you know tomorrow how the day of drinking only juice went.... Benefits of juicing

Food for thought....

Food for thought... The more I read, the more I am convinced that I am on the right path. "Food plays a huge role in how I feel"

If you think that what you put in your body, does not have an effect on how you  think and feel, you are kidding yourself!

I am not a doctor and certainly not a scientific person. But I do know one thing...  "food has always had a tremendous affect on my body".  From outward allergic reactions; like hives, to the unseen things like mental fog, nervousness, anxiety, constipation, headaches, fatique and depression.  All symptoms I have experienced at different periods in my life. Symptoms that could have been caused by what I was eating.
There are many searches you can do on the internet today with regards to how food affects your body. I urge you to read, learn and discern how changing your diet can and will affect how you feel.  From simply adding more fiber to your diet; thus preventing constipation, to eating more foods that can have a positive affect on your life with Parkinson's

I am on a personal journey to feel better. Even if I did not have Parkinson's Disease, I would still be on a journey to feel the best I can... by eating foods that are cleaner and greener. Foods that supply healthy living enzymes... There is a book called "The Enzyme Cure"     definitely worth reading.... it just makes sense to me.  Only by feeding my body "living food" will my body really "live" and sustain itself.

If you think that what you eat does not play a factor in disease, again you are living with blinders on!

Please read more on your own today! You can make healthy choices and changes to your diet that can have a huge impact on the rest of your life and your families lives.
personal stories of how changing diet, changed their life

If you live in Arizona, here is a place to start the journey to changing your life. Find a Naturopathic Physician that will treat your whole body and not just a symptom.
Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center

I am also posting this information again. Please take the time to read this information It really could make a difference in your life.

None of the information that I write about on my blog is new to me.... I started my website http://www.newfacesofparkinsons.com/ back in 2005. The problem: I have not maintained a healthy lifestyle... no one's fault, but my own. Is it easy? NO!  If it was, I would have done it. It takes conviction, determination, and my own daily diligence.  Only through my continued research, can I accomplish what I want for myself. Is it worth it?  Definitely!!! I am the one with with the most to lose.  Can I do it?  Yes, Yes, Yes!!! I have to.... no one can do it for me!

Please remember that "you" can help yourself!!!

Trying different source of Protein

Yesterday, I tried a new source of protein. Whey protein does not agree with me.... so I am choosing a new brand.  It is a living raw food!  Peaceful Planet has a product called "Inca Meal"  it contains, "sprouted rice protein".  I made a smoothie yesterday with the following:

1 scoop Inca meal
1 T nutritional yeast
1 T lecithin granules
1 C almond milk
1/4 C frozen blueberries
1/2 frozen banana
1 T wheat grass powder
1 T noni powder
6 ice cubes

It was full of good nutrition!

It seemed to have settled well with me.... I took my supplements and did not get any stomach issues! That is such a good thing!  The only thing I did notice, which seems typical of me adding protein of any sort to my diet... my tremors get worse... my left hand and foot shake more!

Getting back to what I am eating.... have added some vegan cooked foods to my diet! I am just trying to figure out what makes me the best I can be.... I am using food combining, trying to be alkaline!

Still exercising daily.... guess the foot cramps are not going away!  Just dealing with it.... trying to be more positive!

Adapting diet to try and feel better....

I am my own experiment. Transitioning again! Not feeling good, has made me re-think my diet, again!  Nausea has been plaguing me today!  I also don't feel like my motor skills; hand co-ordination not working properly. So, now along with my foot spasms, my hands are spasming and being funny!  I know that these symptoms can be part of  PD.

I have been pretty lucky, my symptoms have progressed slowly over the last 7 years.

Today, I have decided to change up my diet... I spoke to my Naturopathic Physician yesterday and shared with her the changes I have been making to my diet.  I told her that I had gone "raw" for a couple of weeks, but ultimately feel that food combining and keeping my body more alkaline seemed to be a better choice for me.

She agreed, "food combining" was a good idea for me, it might help with my nausea and taking my herbs and aminos. If I did not want to eat "meat" or "dairy,"  I could incorporate some "non-gmo soy" products into my diet. Like "tofu and miso". She also said, that adding "sprouted grains" was a good idea.  I also asked her about adding "whey protein". She said, I could give it a try!

I experimented with adding some "whey protein" to my breakfast this morning.... I made a smoothie out of a whole avocado, frozen banana, some almond milk and whey protein with 4 ice cubes.
It didn't take long for me to get a reaction.... After my smoothie, I took my usual dose of supplements. It only took about 30 minutes, and the nausea started... I almost vomitted. I didn't,  but I got the dry heaves! Not fun!  Protein, also seems to interfere with the therapeutic effects of the dopamine (from the Mucuna Pruriens) my tremors are worse.

This is something I have been dealing with since starting the neuroassist protocol. I am told that patients who take sinemet can also react to protein this way.  Protein doesn't seem to set well with my supplement combination.

I have made the same smoothie, without the whey protein and not gotten a reaction.... I better stick to that version!

I have been researching "Vegan" recipes today... in keeping with "Food Combining" maybe this is the way to go!

What I am eating this morning!

I found this Alkaline for healing chart and found it really helpful this morning when I was choosing my breakfast.

I started the day with Juicing the following:

Spinach
1/2 red beet
beet greens
mixed dark green lettuces
carrot
cucumber
zucchini

Had a variety of veggies from the farmer's market....

After exercising, I was really hungry, so I decided on Sprouted spelt, fresh strawberries and almond milk.   According to the alkaline chart, I am staying alkaline.....

I find that I need something to eat, prior to taking all my herbs and aminos on the neuroassist program.  They are pretty hard on my stomach; as I have mentioned in prior posts.

I have not been posting everything that I eat, but here's yesterday's lunch; Sprouted tortilla with avocado, tomato, lettuce and organic dijon mustard.... It was really delicious! The only problem is that I thought the tortilla's were too big for one sandwich, and cut it in half, found myself wanting more.... Today, I am making the same thing for lunch, but will definitely eat the whole tortilla.

Still having problems with pain in my legs and back. Also the cramping in my feet is still causing me problems, but mentally I feel better today.  So, that's a good thing!

Health benefits of eating a more "alkaline" balanced diet

Over the last few days, I have been reading alot of information about eating a more "alkaline" balanced diet.  I have read about this in the past, and again it seems to be ringing true to me. After all, my main goal is to be the healthiest I can be, living with Parkinson's Disease. I think it is inevitable that I will always be tweaking my diet, looking for what's right for me.

Food Combining is an essential part of becoming more "alkaline".  Keeping it simple, is also essential for me.  Learning the basics is the best place to start.  And that begins, "by learning what foods are alkaline and what foods are acidic", along with  Learning what your body's Ph level  is and how to use this information in becoming more healthy.

When I started this journey, some of the books that I had read about the "raw food diet", mention that when you make such changes in your diet, you could experience emotional and spiritual changes as well.
I mentioned in one of my posts that the "mental fog" was beginning to lift.  I didn't really know that I had mental fog... it's just that since I have made these dietary changes, my thought's seem clearer and I am able to focus better.

It also seems to bringing up lots of feeling's! Not about one thing, but alot of things! I am feeling very emotional.  Maybe, getting rid of toxins, is not just a physical thing, but a mental one too!

I can only hope that I can continue to learn and grow on this daily journey.

Sticking with my green drink...

This morning, I started the day with a green drink. This time, I am using a powdered Barley Green Grass- 2 tsp in a large glass of water.

Helpful basics- going "raw"

Living with the basics  is a really resourceful website that can give you insightful, basic information about  going "raw".

I encourage anyone seeking to improve their health through "Diet and Supplementation" read as much as possible. Choosing to be "in charge" of your own health, can only make a difference, when you are fully informed.

Staying with my green today, with a slight variation; here is my juice combo this morning!

1/2 red beet
2 small carrots
4 large handfuls of turnip greens
2 handfuls beet greens
1 zucchini
1 cucumber
1 whole lemon, peeled

Something I forgot to mention last week is sprouting.  I bought some wholegrain spelt. 2 days ago, I started the sprouting process; which consisted of using a 32 oz. canning jar, with a mesh lid. Added water and let soak 6-8 hrs. Then rinsed thoroughly, throughout the day for 2 days. And today, I have sprouted Spelt!  I plan to add this to my Spinach Salad for lunch. Along with broccoli, red pepper, avocado, and a little lemon juice with Extra Virgin Olive oil.

Stop, wait a minute! "I forgot about food combining and the Importance of becoming Alkaline"

Ok, I must have been a fog.... I keep wondering why I am not feeling better, since embarking on my "raw" food journey.

It hit me this morning. While I was walking on the treadmill..... I realized I have not been using my brain! I have forgotten something so important... Alkalizing my body! This may be the most important step in regaining my health!  Here are key reasons to keep your body Alkaline

I have not been watching the foods that I am eating.... even though I have stayed "raw" I have been eating too much fruit, which is acidic and definitely have not been using proper food combining in my daily diet!  Dah!  I can't believe that I haven't recognized this til now.

So here goes... Day 1 of being Alkaline!

Juice this morning! Keeping it green, green green!!!

cucumber
turnip greens
mixed dark lettuce greens
3 celery stalks
juice of 1/2 lemon

Food Combining is key in keeping my body Alkaline... here is a link to an easy to follow food combining chart

I know I am on the right path now!   I have to look at the past 2-1/2 weeks as a good thing, even though I made mistakes ... I think the fog is lifting from my brain... I am thinking clearer. I thank God for that!

Off to the Dentist.... will post some Alkalizing recipes later, but in the meantime, I feel on like I am on the right track!

If your searching for healthful recipes, here's some that will blow you away...

I keep finding these amazing recipe's and have to share them with you. You will be impressed by the list of healthy ingredients used in these recipes for smoothies, salads, entrees and desserts.   If you think living a healthy lifestyle is going to be boring and/or not taste good. Your wrong! Thanks to the creative, intelligent people willing to share their healthful recipes.... life is just gonna get better! I am excited to give them a try and hope that you will be too!

My goal is to feel the best that I can... and right now, I am just not there!  I need all the help I can get.

I did not sleep well last night. Just kept turning over and over! I had pain in my legs and lower back. Sciatica, I am told. Doctors say, "it could be part of Parkinson's symptoms", but maybe not.  All I know is that it is a wicked pain/ache that goes from my hip down to my ankle.  Not fun!  Gotta keep a positive attitude.
At least finding this site, with all these wonderful recipe's, keeps me enthusiastic to continue on this journey to be the best I can be.

Smoothie or Juice, adding superfoods to boost nutritional value

My Husband's daughter asked me to teach her about what to put in a smoothie.  Not feeling confident I could answer that fully without too much prejudice for what I personally like.
The next best thing...find  a really informative website.
This site gives more information than I could ever think of putting into my blog or verbally telling her.
I think you will like this:  Smoothies, how to make the most of them

If you would like details about why and how Bill Clinton changed his diet from the "American Standard Diet" to eating primarily a plant based  "Vegan Diet" and the research he personally did about becoming healthier. Here is a link you will find helpful.  Plant based diet He gives clear cut reasons, why he felt the need to take charge of his own life and diet. It really rings true for me and why I personally felt the need to change my own diet.

Juiced this morning. Same as yesterday, since I had all the fruits and veggies cleaned and ready to go. It's really amazing how good this tastes.
Still impressed with my new juicer. It is really quiet and emulsifies everything, creating awesome juice.

Studies show whey protein may be beneficial for patient's with Parkinson's Disease  by increasing Glutathione levels.

Writing daily has become really therapeutic for me and hopefully helpful to those of  you who have found my blog.  I know your out there... at least my stats tell me so... please join me by becoming a follower or signing in with your email address or making a comment to one of my posts. I would really love your feed back.

Lunch today was amazing!

I made a Salad with Mixed Greens, alfalfa sprouts, red pepper, carrots, cucumber, sunflower seeds, chopped red beets and broccoli.  Used some of the french dressing I made the other day, combined it with a mashed ripe avocado, then tossed salad in dressing. Dressing consisted of olive oil, apple cider vinegar, paprika, fresh ground mustard seed, raw agave, sea salt and pepper. This is probably one of the best salads I have had in a long time.

Differences in Vegetarianism and Veganism

I find myself searching the internet on a regular basis for new information that can help in my health quest and would like to share some of what I have found with you. Hopefully, it saves you some time and energy! Just click on the links to view helpful information.

I was doing a search on the spice Turmeric and found that this spice is being studied with relationship to Parkinson's Disease , thought it was worth sharing with you.

Staying Focused

Up early this a.m., my new Jack Lalanne juicer arrived on Friday. I have to say, "it works great"! Very quiet and seems pretty powerful.

I made a juice drink yesterday of:

All ingredients were organic.  Make sure to wash them well, and peel the red beet.

1 small red beet
6 carrots
1 small apple
4 handfuls of spinach

It tasted really good! Very smooth!
This morning, Sunday, I made juice again... went to the Farmer's Market on Saturday and got some beet greens, along with turnip greens and some huge carrots. I used the greens, along with a red beet, a small apple and 3 of the huge carrots.

Similar to yesterday's recipe; except I changed out the type of greens I added. Again, it was delicious!

A book that I used to refer to for juicing recipes, was called Juicing for Life, by Cherie Calbom. Lost track of the book... so I ordered a used copy on Amazon.com Very inexpensive, basically just paid for the shipping.

This is a great book. Loaded with lots of healthful, helpful information, And lots of reasons why juicing is a  good way to start regaining your health.

Thinking that this is too drastic a change for you in your diet! And much too hard of a lifestyle change to follow. Then you could transition slowly, using Smoothies to reform your diet. They are delicious! They are made from whole fruits and vegetables in your Blender. Cherie Calbom has written a book called "The Ultimate Smoothie Book" it has over 100 recipes for making delicious, healthful smoothies.

If you would like to transition to a "Vegan" diet, here is an easy way to get started with this great recipe book. Real, terrific recipes that you can make yourself at home.  "The Kind Diet" by Alicia Silverston

Staying on the topic of regaining health. Here is a website The Doctor Within that will give you insight into how you can take charge of your life.  The link is to his Last Resort page...  please read the entire site. The information he shares for Free is incredible! If you have Children, this is a must read.! You could save your child's life!

If you have read any of my story on my website http://www.newfacesofparkinsons.com/ you will remember that I worked at the Southwest Naturopathic Medical Center in Scottsdale, as the front office manager for a few years. Dr. Walter Crinnion, N.D. was one of my Physicians. He has writtten a book "Clean, Green and Lean" get rid of the toxins that make you fat. and has a website (link is to food pollution) (site has other tremendous information that can change your life) Dr. Walter Crinnion/food pollution with critically important information about foods you should definitely not eat and what foods you should eat, only if their organic.  I highly recommend taking a look at this site. It could save your life!

Did you know that in 2009 the media was reporting that our 42nd President, Bill Clinton had symptoms of Parkinson's Disease? As well as Heart Disease. See the story!  Clinton has shaking hands . If you see pictures of Bill Clinton now in 2011, he looks slimmer and healthier. Why? He became a Vegan! Bill Clinton goes "Vegan" he went "vegan" after researching how eating a plant based diet can heal your body.  I think that says it all.... no coincedence here.  Just the facts! Pretty smart guy! Yep, I would say so!

2 "Reasons to stay Focused"

Well, this is interesting!

Everything that I wrote yesterday under this topic "Reasons to stay Focused" has mysteriously disappeard.

If that is going to happen in the future I better rethink this blog and save it under other means...

Hope you did get to read what I wrote... it was good information.

Taking it "One Day at a Time"

"Taking it one day at a time" has really become significant to me.

I remember when I first had symptoms of shaking, I thought to myself, "How am I going to live with this shaking?"  It's amazing what your body and mind adapts too!

Now, I realize I  really had no idea what was in store for me.

I am greatful to take it "one day at a time".  I have learned so much from other's who are dealing with this Disease and other Disease's that take their toll on the body and mind.

Everytime I think that things should be going a certain way, at a certain pace, something seems to bring me back to just "take it one day at  time".

My Juicer that I bought only 3 years ago, broke yesterday!  Talk about being upset!  This is not the time for that to happen. I haven't been juicing everyday, but had planned on transitioning to more juicing this next week. Guess what?  Change of plans.  I ordered a new juicer. I chose a Jack Lalanne model based on power and and not having to chop the fruits or veggies prior to putting into the juicer. I also decided to buy the extended warranty. I have gone through 3 juicer's over the last 8 years, and know that juicing  will be a part of my daily life forever. So, it is well worth the money to me to make this investment.

It seems to me that taking it "one day at a time" and gaining patience,(not one of my virtues) is extremely important living with Parkinson's Disease. As I walked on my treadmill this morning, I again experienced cramping in my feet. This time it affected both feet. First, the left and about 5 minutes later, the right foot.  It makes it difficult to continue walking on the treadmill, but I didn't give up. I just took it a bit slower and took foot stretching breaks. (as often as I needed to) Was successful in walking for 30 minutes. Hooray!  I then used the mini-trampoline for 15 minutes.  My toes on my right foot were curling up, as I gently, bounced up and down, but I did make it through the 15 minute routine.

While I am waiting for my new juicer to arrive, I will be eating more green salads for lunch and dinner.

Simple salad - all organic

green leaf lettuce
tomatoes
corn
red pepper
cucumber
broccoli
olives
1/2 avocado  chopped

Home made french dressing: I make this in my blender. Adjust seasoning to your own taste.
If you don't have flax oil, you can use all extra virgin olive oil.

1/4 c. extra virgin olive oil
1/4 c. flax oil
3 T. apple cider vinegar
1 clove garlic -minced, chopped or pressed
1/2 teas. paprika
1 teas. ground yellow mustard seed
Sea salt and pepper to taste

Why I decided to change my diet - PD symptoms progressing

My "PD symptoms" started to progress over  the last month. My right foot is cramping, wanting to curl up, making it pretty difficult to walk for more than 10 minutes at a time.

I had stated earlier on my website www.newfacesofparkinsons.com  on my story update page, that since starting the neuroassist program back in April of 2009, " My symptoms had not progressed".

Now, that this is changing, it is forcing me to re-evaluate, how I can continue to help myself. And for me, that involves changing what I put in my body. Food plays a key role in how I feel.

The following is a link for you to look up nutritional content for fruits and vegetables. I found it helpful and thought you would too!
.

Nutritional Information of Fruits and Vegetables

Breakfast today is simple. 1 whole personal  Watermelon. Hard to believe, but it really is filling.  I couldn't eat the whole thing and shared with my boyfriend.

I walked on my treadmill this morning for 30 minutes.... I have added ankle weights. 1-1/2 lbs for each ankle.  It does help a bit in keeping my momentum going when my foot starts to cramp up. But, still had to stop and stretch out the cramps for 5- 10 seconds and then continue on. I also used my personal mini trampoline (it really helps eliminate stress on your joints) for about 15 minutes and did stretching for about 10 minutes.

Day 10 Sweet and Sour Coleslaw

Day 10

Earlier in the week I bought ingredients to make a "raw" Sweet and Sour Coleslaw.

This morning I woke up at 6:00 a.m. started prepping all the ingredients to make the slaw. Here is the recipe. It's on the sweeter side! It is adapted from Alissa's Cohens book "Raw Food for Everyone"

Medium Cabbage chopped
4 small Carrots shredded
1/2 C Dried Cranberries
1 Apple chopped
1/3 C Extra Virgin Olive Oil
6 Tblsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
3 Tblsp.  Raw Agave
1/2 teas.  Allspice
1/2 teas.  Sea Salt
Rind of 1 Orange

I hand chopped all the ingredients, placed all in a medium size mixing bowl and mixed together well.
In a small mixing bowl, whisk together the following:  Oil, Vinegar, Agave, Allspice, Sea Salt and Orange Rind. Pour over Slaw and mix well. Refrigerate, for at least 1 hour, then serve.

Using Herbs and Amino Acids to treat my symptoms of Parkinson's Disease

In the beginning years of having Parkinson's symptoms; shaking, muscle spasms, and muscle tightness. I had depended on different alternative medical treatments in order to help my symptoms. Weekly Glutathione intravenous therapies helped tremendously with symptoms in the first few years. But, eventually had a wearing off affect and no longer was effective in relieving me of uncomfortable tremors, muscle contractions and spasms.

I then embarked on a journey of trying an agonist called Mirapex. Mirapex may work well for some, but did not work well for me. It caused me to become obsessive compulsive and just generally did not agree with me. I did not feel like my normal self. I do not want to go into details, but those of you who have experienced side effects know what I mean.

I eventually came upon another treatment using the herb Mucuna Pruriens and compounded Carbidopa, made by a compounding Pharmacy. In the beginning, I felt amazing, but this did not last. Similar to taking Sinemet, in the beginning you feel great, but eventually get worse.
Over time, I built up a tolerance to the Carbidopa and needed larger amounts of the compound, which caused me side effects of dystonia in my leg, arm and head. Along with tremors and muscle contractions, the toll it took on my body was too great and I had to stop this therapy. I couldn't function like this.

Again, I looked for a new alternative. In 2009 I came across a treatment using Mucuna Pruiriens and Amino Acid therapy. Actually, someone from the Patients like me website sent me a link to http://www.neuorassist.com/

I read the information on the neuorassist site and knew that I would give it a try.

I contacted Neuroassist through their website and they referred me to Dr. Dana Keaton, N.D. of Phoenix, AZ.

I started the Neuroassist combination therapy program in April of 2009.

It hasn't been an easy road. I have had many challenges. Mostly due to stomach related issues and taking the Amino Acids and Mucuna Pruriens. I have spent many days feeling sick with flu like symptoms. Including severe nausea and spontaneous vomitting. I know this sounds horrible, but I have stuck it out because the therapy does have positve effects.

The combination therapy has somewhat controlled the PD symptoms. Allowing me to have many hours during the day where I feel normal. That means, no shaking and no muscle spasms. Anyone who has PD knows that this is a big deal. No shaking for any period of time is like being NORMAL again. This was huge for me.

Now, getting to the purpose of this blog. Diet seems to play a huge role in how I feel while taking these Amino acids and Mucuna Pruriens and in general plays an important role in healing my body.

Neuroassist does write about possible carbohydrate and protein intolerance on their website. Unfortunately, I did not read this area before starting this therapy in April of 2009. If I had read that part of the website, I probably could have avoided feeling any stomach distress or at least minimized it considerably.

I have read many books concerning food and how it can affect the body. Both negatively and positively.

Along with using the Herbs and Amino acids to treat my Parkinson's symptoms; My goal is to share with you positive ways food can improve how our bodies feel and minimize symptoms of inflammation, which according to Dr. Richard Fleming in his book "Stop Inflammation Now" can contribute to symptoms of Parkinson's Disease, along with other Neurological and Inflammatory conditions.

How my website "Newfacesofparkinson's" came to be

When I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease 7 years ago, I really had no idea what Parkinson's was or how it affected the body. All I knew was that it made you have shakiness in your body and it was assoiciated with older people.  All the research that I did to find out about the disease; resulted in me creating  a website www.newfacesofparkinsons.com  It definitely wasn't my intention. I had no idea how to even create a website. But with the help of a woman that I never even met,(we only talked on the phone, where I had worked previously) the website came to fruition. Joyce,  I don't know if your following this, but  I will always be greatful to you for your hard work, amazing knowledge and patience in helping me to put it together. I still don't consider myself a writer. I just write what I feel and know that I want to share with other's the information that I have found to be helpful in my journey with Parkinson's Disease.

Keeping it "raw" and keeping it "simple"

Day 9 and still keeping it "raw"

Well,  yesterday I woke up with a terrible head cold, caught from my boyfriend. He has been sick all week.

Wasn't really too hungry for breakfast - I made this in the vita-mix blender, keeping as much pulp on the fruit as possible after peeling for the healthful benefits of the
bioflavonoids which can
  • act as antihistamines, and

  • have anti-inflammatory properties.

  • Oranges
    lemon
    ginger
    cayenne
    turmeric
    ice and water

The body relaxes "who knew this could happen"

    May 5, 2011

Well I have made it to "Day 7" of being "raw".  I am feeling pretty good this morning. One of the main things that I have noticed since going raw is waking up really early in the morning. I am finding that I am ready to get up between 5:00 and 6:00 a.m. in the morning.

This morning I feel pretty clear minded and full of energy. I have noticed that my tremors seem less intense and I feel more relaxed.  A feeling that I have not been used to since PD symptoms started 7 years ago. Normally I wake feeling stiff and tense. Along with not feeling rested. So I would say this is a pretty good thing!

Something that I saw on a cable station several months ago, had been running around in my head and I guess that it is really one of the stronger reasons for me to decide to change my diet.

It was a show with "Chef Gordon Ramsey" from "Hell's Kitchen" fame.

He was doing a travel show and on  a journey somewhere in "India" . He experienced a day of being a"vegetarian". He was speaking with an Indian man, they were about to sit down and eat their vegetarian lunch. The Indian man, sat cross legged  on the ground, alongside other's who were enjoying lunch.  Gordon Ramsey, tried to sit and found that he was having difficulty joining the other's in this cross legged position on  the ground. The Indian man, said something like this to him, "he would become more limber and his body would be more relaxed on a vegan/vegetarian diet".  This stuck in my mind. My body had become more and more tense and had minimal flexibility. I felt that it was getting worse with the progression of Parkinson's.

I started doing "yoga type" stretching a few weeks ago and could not touch my toes.  I was about a foot from the ground. All my muscles were tight and had no flexibility. I say, "yoga type" because I only know the "downward dog" and "kids pose" position officially. I would like to learn more and have googled a few  website's with yoga information and hope that I can incorporate some of their principles into my lifestyle,  soon!

And guesss what? I have become more flexible, have more balance and feel much more relaxed since starting this way of eating. Who knew this could happen, just by changing my diet.

I made flax crackers in my dehydrator the other day. Wow are they good! They look really pretty too!
I will attempt to take a picture and upload it later!

    My recipe:

2 cups soaked golden flax seeds
    juice of one lime
sea salt (small amount or how you like it!)
    8 chopped sundried tomatoes
red crushed pepper (season how you like it!)
    2 chopped kale leaves

Using a food processor, add all of the above ingredients and pulse until all is well mixed.
Spread thinly on teflex sheets and put into your dehydrator for about 6 hours, carefully flip over and dehydrate for another 6-8 hours.   I eat my flax crackers with my version of guacamole (a mashed ripe avocado, chopped tomato, chopped onion)  SCRUMPTIOUS!

Parkinson's- Is today the day the healing begins?

Several years ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease. If you would  like a to read my story, please visit http://www.newfacesofparkinsons.com/

Somehow, somewhere inside my head I feel like I know how to heal my body.

Intuitively, I have always been attracted to Books and Articles about Alternative Medicine, Cooking and how food affects the body.

Food can make you sick, if you are allergic.

Food can nourish your body, soul and mind if it's the right food.

I have read so much about healing the body with food.

Is it possible that food can heal me? Or at least make me feel much better than I do now.

I want to find out. I need to find out. So, I am taking this journey to see if what I eat will affect how I feel.

"Computer Problems and The birth of this blog"

    May 3, 2011

Sorry it has been awhile. My main computer crashed and then my laptop also went down.
    But, I am back now.

Since my last writing I have discovered that I can no longer access my www.newfacesofparkinsons.com website files. At first I was really upset, but now think that maybe it is a sign that I need to re-invent myself, as it is and start writing about my life now, with Parkinson's. All of the alternative information will remain on the website. (Note: I am currently using the www.Neuroassist.com Protocol and think that this is the most effective way for me to treat my Parkinson's symptoms. It has given me the most relief and is my source of hope in keeping my body active right now. I share this with you, so you can investigate for yourself about how this can work for you, if you choose too!)

Now I feel the need to move on... I am on a quest to improve my health. Diet seems to be the key for me.

After re-reading several "raw food" books, I have decided that "going raw" is the most beneficial thing I can do for my body right now. Eating living food; salads, fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds is key to a "living body".

Today, is the 6th day of going "raw".

I have tried eating "raw" in the past, only to give up after a few days. I think the key to success this time is simplifying my food choices. And having enough food on hand, all the time.

I just can't complicate this. Keep it simple. Keep it raw, that is my new motto. So far this new thinking has helped me to make this a successful "Day 6".

    Simple recipe for Breakfast-
    Blend in Vita-Mix blender

    Blueberries
    Frozen Banana
    Raw honey

    Simple snack-

    Apple

    Simple lunch- Salad
    Mix all together and enjoy!

    Kale
    Broccoli
    Red pepper
    Cucumber
    Green onion
    Avocado
    Lemon or Lime juice
    Sea salt

    Simple Snack-
    Oranges

    Simple Dinner

    Flax crackers
    Fresh salsa and avocado

One of the other reasons that I had trouble sticking to a an all "raw" diet in the past was the side effects of detoxing.

So far I have experienced sluggishness, sleepiness, mental fog and brief periods of euphoria, though they did not last long, it could be scarey if you don't know what or why this is happening to you. Fortunately, I have done my homework and realize that each of us is individual and will experience "raw" in our own unique way.

I feel more mentally prepared this time.  Therefore, I feel like I can and will succeed, but only time will tell.
